The Day I . . . Went to a Rotary Club at Braintree

To say that I was nervous to give a speech in front of twenty-five strangers is an understatement; I was petrified. Growing up, whenever I had to give a presentation, butterflies swarmed in my stomach. I hated (and still hate) random "meet and greet" games. I haven't done any promotion events for my book, but I figured, "Why not?" By the time for me to give my speech, I was a mess, and to be honest, I was hoping the fire alarm would go off for a test run.

I stepped up to the from of a large room with five books laid on the table. My hands shook, and thank goodness I put on extra deodorant this morning. As I look up, people from all different ages, staring at me with eager faces. But when I stared at my paper and read out loud, I eased, lowering the paper. I even glanced up in between the last three paragraphs! Once I finished, everyone claps, and at that moment, I was so proud of myself. During the Q&A portion, one person asked me if I was going to write anymore books, and I said yes. The director told me that I was more than happy to come by next year!

Not only did I sell six books, I gained so much more. The members of the Rotary are incredibly kind, and when I come back next year, hopefully I'll be a little more welcoming, a little more talkative, and a little less introvert.
